Become strong and confident in middle school Latin through this foundational course and be fully prepared for high school Latin next school year.
Special Notes: This is Part One of a two-part course. Students are expected to register for Part Two offered in the spring. This is a beginner course with no prerequisite – it moves at a faster pace than the Introductory Middle School Latin course.

Class Dates: Thursdays, September 12 to December 12, 2024 (No class Oct. 24 & Nov. 28)
Starting Time: 10:00 AM Eastern (9:00 Central; 8:00 Mountain; 7:00 Pacific)
Duration Per Class: 55 minutes
Prerequisite: None
Suggested Grade Level: 7th to 8th grade
Suggested Credit: One full semester of Latin

Course Description: Students will be introduced to Latin grammar and vocabulary through the Ecce Romani I-A series. They will also be encouraged to use certain online resources to help them develop good study habits. This course will help prepare Middle School students for High School Latin courses and will explore both Classical and Ecclesiastical pronunciations.

Week 1: Chapter 1: Parts of Speech
Week 2: Chapter 1: How to Translate
Week 3: Chapter 2: Verbs and Subjects
Week 4: Chapter 2: Verbs – Linking, complements
Week 5: Chapter 3: Nouns and Adjectives
Week 6: Chapter 3: Translation and Review
Week 7: Chapter 4: Direct Objects
Week 8: Chapter 4: Transitive and Intransitive Verbs
Week 9: Chapter 5: Complementary Infinitives, Review
Week 10: Chapter 5: Aeneas
Week 11: Chapter 6: Infinitives and Impersonal Verbs
Week 12: Chapter 6: Nouns and Adjectives, Gender. Review for Final Exam
Course Materials: Ecce Romani IA 4th Edition ISBN-10: 0133610926 (https://tinyurl.com/a6ytx6b9). A working microphone is required for this course.
Homework: Students will spend 1-2 hours on average per week on their homework in addition to classroom time. There will be frequent quizzes and tests to assess students’ mastery of the concepts learned throughout the semester.
Fee: For all 12 classes: $187 if you register on or before July 15, $207 if you register after July 15. (Registration closes one week before the first day of class. After that date, registrations are not guaranteed. There is a $20 surcharge for late enrollments after the course is closed.)

Debbie Gaudino
Debbie Gaudino is a veteran homeschool Mom. She has taught Latin and Theology at Homeschool Connections for the past three years. She serves her local parish as a Catechist and Spiritual Director and has been a featured speaker at Catholic Women's conferences and retreats for over a decade.
Debbie earned her BA from Fordham University in Soviet Studies and her MA from Franciscan University of Steubenville in Theology and Pastoral Ministry. She is a lifelong learner with a passion for helping other homeschool families.
