Continue to advance your German skills with this higher-level course that will focus on grammar and conversation. Continue growing your confidence in the most widely spoken mother language in the European Union!

Instructor: Mandi Gette, MA, MAS

Course Description: This semester will enhance the students’ grasp of German with a focus on reading and conversation. The course will feature pronunciation practice, conversation, new grammar concepts, and cultural trivia with an emphasis on reading comprehension this year. Students will complete regular homework, quizzes and chapter tests, dictations, and project work during the semester.  We will use everything from nursery rhymes, songs, and proverbs to commercials and cartoons to aid the acquisition of this modern and living European language.

Class 1: The simple past tense

Class 2: Numbers, times, and dates

Class 3: The past perfect

Class 4: Review, first exam

Class 5: The future tense

Class 6: Reflexive pronouns and verbs

Class 7: More reflexives, second exam

Class 8: Relative pronouns

Class 9: The passive voice

Class 10: Passive voice, continued

Class 11: Infinitive phrases

Class 12: The subjunctive mood

Class 13: Subjunctive II

Class 14: Review, third exam

 Learning a foreign language requires regular practice. Ideally, at least half an hour per day should be spent on German, i.e., completing grammar drills assigned, memorizing vocabulary, reading for comprehension, taking quizzes, listening to online German news broadcasts, and generally becoming familiar with the language.

Fees

Fee: For all 14 classes: $237 if you register on or before November 15; $257 if you register after Nov. 15. (Registration closes one week before the first day of class. After that date, registrations are not guaranteed. There is a $20 surcharge for late enrollments after the course is closed.)

 Mrs. Gette holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Theology, Catechetics, and German and a Master of Arts degree in Theology and Christian Ministry (Franciscan University of Steubenville), as well as a Master of Advanced Studies degree in Theology, with an emphasis in Christian ethics (KU Leuven). Her Master’s thesis is on the topic of Christian marriage. Mrs. Gette’s career includes online education to students across the globe, in both English as a Second Language and Catholic classrooms, teaching students from pre-school to adulthood. Her experience in ministry varies from sacramental preparation for all ages to missionary work to Montessori-based catechesis.

Mrs. Gette enjoys various approaches to homeschooling, including book work, physical learning, co-op communities, and the use of multimedia. She enjoys asking questions to cause students to ponder deep truths and showing the glory of God in all disciplines. Mrs. Gette’s hobbies include painting, sewing, studying philosophy, and watching Christmas movies. Mrs. Gette is thrilled to be a part of the Homeschool Connections community!

Jamie Salvucci

Jamie is a Jewish convert to Catholicism. She converted in 1998 when she was in college studying music education. She met her husband during her senior year and they married in 2003. They live in northeast PA with our 5 wonderful children whom they have always homeschooled. In my spare time she enjoy acting as chauffeur, lead cook and bottle washer, chief medical liaison, curriculum advisor, and part-time jungle gym. She also love reading, knitting, not killing my sour dough starter, and coffee.
