In today’s world we often wonder, why would someone do that? Why can’t we all just get along? What is going on in our culture? Social psychology answers those questions by looking at how people interact with each other and our world. This course will give an overview of social psychology from a Catholic perspective.

How to get the most out of Introduction to Social Psychology With Kristi Moore:

  • First, read the course materials below before the first class meeting.

  • Then have a notebook ready and available for class notes each live session.

  • Read assignments before class meetings

  • Watch that week’s recording if you need to revisit information from our live session.

  • Do the assignments, quizzes, and any extra work assigned for that week.

  • Once the course is completed to the parent's and professor’s satisfaction, there is a Certificate of Completion at the end to be filled in for your records.

Course description: Social Psychology is the study of how people’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by other people or groups. This course will introduce the major topics in social psychology including attitudes, persuasion, aggression, and prejudice. Students will learn research in the field and be challenged to think critically about these studies and how they apply to the modern world through a Catholic point of view.

Parents should note that mature topics will be touched upon including gender, aggression, and stereotyping & prejudice.

Class 2: Social Learning
Class 3: Social Affect
Class 4: The Self
Class 5: Attitudes and Persuasion
Class 6: Perceiving Others
Class 7: Influencing and Conforming
Class 8: Helping and Altruism
Class 9: Aggression
Class 10: Working in Groups
Class 11: Stereotypes, Prejudice, and Discrimination
Class 12: Competition and Cooperation

Course materials: All materials will be provided FREE by the instructor.

Homework: Students will take online quizzes and complete weekly written activities and discussion questions. An application paper applying social psychology topics to some form of media will also be required (approx. four to six pages). Expect to spend 1-3 hours per week on homework outside of class.

About Kristi Moore, Ph.D.

Dr. Kristi Moore earned her PhD in Educational and Developmental Psychology from the University of Florida and is currently an Associate Professor and Program Director for the Applied Psychology graduate program at Angelo State University.

She specializes in child and adolescent development and learning and motivation. Dr. Moore has been teaching psychology since 2009.

She enjoys fulfilling her vocation as a wife and homeschool mother to her four children. Dr. Moore and her husband are licensed foster parents in Florida.
