What are leadership and interpersonal communication, and how do they apply to me?” Leadership and interpersonal communication have been said to hold some of the most essential skills for success in school, work, and life! Learn about emotional intelligence, managing conflict well, listening actively for the best understanding and connection, what your body language is saying, and more!
Class day/time: Thursdays, 2:30 PM Eastern (1:30 PM Central; 12:30 PM Mountain; 11:30 AM Pacific)
Instructor: Natalie M. SchiraCourse Description: “What is leadership and interpersonal communication, and what does it have to do with my future?” This essential course guides you through the foundational and critical leadership and communication skills that all students need to succeed, including managing yourself well with emotional intelligence, conflict management, body language, speaking skills, and more to become a person of positive influence. Special attention is given to integrating our faith into leadership and personal communication, as well as practical action steps for building healthy relationships and living our faith to positively influence others in our community and world. This course draws from university-level leadership and interpersonal communications, to guide each student into good personal leadership practices and communication that is easy to understand, practical, and fun. Join this course if you want to be confident and able to connect with others in a positive way – and have the skills to build success for your future!

Course Outline:
Class 1: The Skills of Leadership: what it takes to be a leader, servant leadership, and transformational leadership
Class 2: Emotional Intelligence and Leadership
Class 3: Conflict Management and Leadership
Class 4: Active Listening, Empathy, and Wise Decision Making for Leadership
Class 5: Personal Speaking Skills: voice, body language, and connecting with your listener
Class 6: Faith-filled Leadership: The actions of leadership
Materials
Homework
Expect approximately two (2) to four (4) hours of homework per class, depending upon your student’s skill level and goals. Activities include weekly reading assignments and activities, weekly self-reflective writing assignments, and automated quizzes.
Fees
Fee: For all 6 classes: $127 if you register on or before November 15, $147 after November 15. (Registration closes one week before the first day of class. After that date, registrations are not guaranteed. There is a $25 surcharge for late enrollments after the course is closed.)

Miss Natalie Meyer Schira, BA, proudly serves as a teacher of middle school English and writing. She graduated from Saint Mary’s College Notre Dame in 2012 with a major in English Literature and a minor in secondary education.
Since then, Miss Schira has dedicated herself to Catholic education, joyfully serving nine years teaching English in a Catholic high school in Iowa. Miss Schira has also been featured in publications and with awards and recognition for teaching and inspiration.
With a love of language and teaching, she is committed to cultivating students’ academic and emotional development and using her teaching credentials to collaborate with and support families and students. Miss Schira’s greatest loves include Christ, commas, communication, caffeine, and her beloved Chicago Cubs while living a life grounded in faith, joy, and opportunity.
To quote one of her favorite pieces of wisdom from her mother, “When life gives you hold music, dance.” Here at Aquinas Writing Advantage, Miss Schira is beginning her sixth year as a LIVE course teacher for the 6/7 and 7/8 Series middle school writing courses. She is also the Middle School Writing Support Specialist.
