Legal Vocabulary
Live course taught by Susan Sucher for Spring 2026 High School Vocabulary
Summary

Are you interested in a legal career? Have you ever wondered what all those legal terms mean when you watch a courtroom drama? In this course, we will learn about the Latin roots of our legal system and the terms that we have inherited from Ancient Rome. This “applied Latin” course brings the language alive and helps the student to understand and engage on a deeper level with the legal terminology they encounter in their everyday lives.

Course description: Students will learn legal terms and their Latin roots in this English vocabulary course. We all encounter legal terms and knowing more about their roots will help expand the student’s vocabulary and literacy with engaging and interesting content. The history of our legal system and its ancient Roman roots will be incorporated into the course as students learn about terms that are used today.
