Church History in 15 Objects
- Summary
-
Come encounter the history of our Catholic Church by getting to know the objects that were there when it happened. Join us as we tour Church history in 15 fascinating objects!
Course Description: This course is an objects-based survey of the history of the Catholic Church that touches on key events from the last two thousand years. Students will ground their knowledge of people and eras by examining the physical objects that we still have as reminders of what happened. From the stones of the Jerusalem Temple to St. Francis’s Tunic to a Vatican II parking pass, students will encounter objects from Catholic history guided by author, theologian, and apologist Gary Michuta.
Instructor: Gary Michuta
The objects and descriptions are taken from Mike Aquilina’s A History of the Church in 100 Objects (ISBN-13: 978-1594717505; E-Book: ISBN-13: 978-1594717512) The book is not required, but is strongly recommended. Selections from the book will be presented in PowerPoint.
