Course Description:  Let’s enter the world of pathogenic microorganisms, studying their role in human disease and immunology. By the end of Part 2 you’ll gain an understanding of microbial infection, parasitology, viruses, the interaction between microbe and host, and preventative measures. You’ll be able to describe the symptoms, causative agent, pathogenesis, epidemiology, prevention and treatment for the infectious diseases studied.

• Class 2 Virus Life Cycle

• Class 3 Meet the Microbes: Viruses

• Class 4 Microbial Growth

• Class 5 Immunology: Non-Specific

• Class 6 Immunology: Specific

• Class 7 Biology of Bacteria

• Class 8 The Disease Process

• Class 9 Fungal Infections

• Class 10 Foodborne Disease

• Class 11 Bloodborne Disease

• Class 12 Antimicrobial Drugs

Course Materials: Students will be provided with materials and online resources free.

Homework:  Expect to spend approximately two-plus hours each week outside of

the classroom on vocabulary study, reading, online assignments and quizzes.

Vocabulary is assigned alongside the weekly reading for better understanding of the

material and to prepare the student for the live lecture. Most of the computer-

graded quiz material is based on vocabulary, what is presented in class and the

homework assignments. The sequence of events for each week are as follows:

1. Read the assigned reading in the provided WordDoc

2. Write the provided vocabulary words in your notebook

3. Watch video

4. Complete any online assignment

5. Take the associated computer graded quiz for that class.
