How to get the most out of Fiction Writing 6: Authoring a Book, Part 1: How it Works, What it Takes, and How to Succeed (HS 11-6) with Professor Erin M. Brown (AKA Erin Brown Conroy):

  • First, read the course details below.

  • Prepare a notebook for note taking and homework.

  • Students begin the course by clicking on the "Recording" and watching Professor Brown’s lecture for Class One.

  • Review supplemental materials (videos or readings)

  • Complete the assignment(s). Turn it into your parent for grading.

  • If you need review, go back and watch the recording again and/or go over the PowerPoint.

  • Repeat until all 4 classes are complete.

  • Once the course is completed to the parent's satisfaction, there is a Certificate of Completion at the end to be filled in for your records

Series Description: There are eight parts to the Write Your Own Fiction Book Series. Students can jump into this continuing series at any time.

Course Description: This course teaches what it takes to be an author, from personal practices to how to approach the publishing world and contact professionals in the industry. The course will also discuss what it’s like to be a Catholic author today.

 

Course Outline:

  • Class 1: Personal practices of successful writers

  • Class 2: The manuscript and query

  • Class 3: The platform, marketing, and the Internet

  • Class 4: Agents, publishers, and self-publishing

 

Course Materials: All materials are provided FREE via the instructor

Homework: LIVE and Instructor Access students will have weekly writing assignments with grading and direct feedback from the instructor (parents will grade Recorded students’ work). Expect an estimated two (2) to four (4) hours per week for homework outside of class time, depending on the student’s ability; homework includes reading, writing, and responding to feedback.

About Cherise Papa

Cherise Papa, English B.S., has worked for ten years as a fiction editor helping authors create the books of their dreams.

Currently Ms. Papa is working as a managing editor and building a small press to help authors publish series in indie markets. She also volunteers at Fyrecon and is working behind the scenes at a different press to help publishers enter into new digital markets.

Her passion for story and helping writers discover that passion for themselves has driven her love for editing and teaching. Ms. Papa lives in on the Virginia coast with her husband and three young children, where they enjoy family adventures and fostering their children's creativity through the arts, music, play, and more books and board games than they can count.
