Join this high school Intermediate Conversational Spanish course, learning Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation that allows you to speak the language. Learn vocabulary and phrases related to homes, schools, cities, and more! 

How to get the most out of Intermediate Conversational Spanish, Part One with Nanci Lopez:

  • First, read the course materials below before the first class meeting.

  • Then have a notebook ready and available for class notes for each recorded session.

  • Review class notes before each class.

  • Watch that week’s recording if you need to revisit information from the recorded session.

  • Do the assignments, quizzes, and any extra work assigned for that week.

  • Once the course is completed to the parent's satisfaction, there is a Certificate of Completion at the end to be filled in for your records.

  • Answer key for the Supplemental Recordings and Worksheets are available upon request.

This is Part One of a two-part course.

 

Total Classes: 12  classes, plus 8 supplement lectures

Duration: 55 minutes

 

Prerequisite: A full year of Beginning Conversational Spanish. 

Suggested Grade Level: 9th to 12th grade

Suggested Credit: One full semester Spanish or Foreign Language

Course Description: In this course, students will be taught a basic vocabulary with an emphasis on simple verb conjugation and pronunciation. Students will sharpen their speaking and listening skills and further develop their reading and writing skills.  By the end of this course, students will be able to form basic sentences, conjugate verbs in future, past, and present tenses, and have the tools to conduct themselves through basic conversations.

Course Outline:

  •  Session 1 - House Vocabulary and review Conjugation of Verbs in the Present Tense

  •  Session 2 - House Vocabulary continued and Conjugation of ser/estar/tener/ir

  •  Session 3 - Interview a Partner and Conjugation of ser/ester/tener/ir

  •  Session 4 - About the City Vocabulary and Conjugation of ser/estar/tener/ir in the Preterit Tense

  • Session 5 - About the City Vocabulary continued and Demonstrative Adjectives

  • Session 6 - Story in the Round and Demonstrative Adjectives continued

  • Session 7 - School Vocabulary and Present Participle of Verbs

  • Session 8 - School Vocabulary Continued and Present Participle of Verbs Continued

  • Session 9 - Reading Comprehension and Conjugation of Verbs in the Preterite Tense

  • Session 10 - Numbers Review and Conjugation of Verbs in the Preterite Tense continued

  • Session 11 - Family, Adjectives, Clothing and Color Review and Preterite Tense continued

  • Session 12 - Food and Entertainment Review and Preterite Tense

Course Materials: All course materials provided free by the instructor.  Spanish/English dictionary is recommended.  A notebook for Spanish is required, as well as a folder to place any worksheets printed.

Homework: Students will be expected to spend about 3 to 5 hours per week outside of weekly classes. This is not meant to discourage students. Simply put, repetition is key when learning any new language. Audio files will be expected to be submitted to parents either as an audio file or can be completed orally.

Answer Key: An answer key booklet is included with this course.

About Nanci Lopez

Nanci Lopez graduated from Seton Hall University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education and also in Spanish. While born in Newark, New Jersey, her family is originally from Puerto Rico. Mrs. Lopez worked for six years with the Bloomfield School District as a Spanish Teacher and New Teacher Mentor.

During that time, she developed and implemented the Spanish and French Curriculum for the Elementary and Middle schools in the district. Mrs. Lopez taught Conversational Spanish I, II, & III to adults and senior citizens at Union County College. She also taught Spanish to healthcare and business professionals.

Additionally, she operates Conversational Spanish Online, LLC, teaching Spanish online to adults who want to make themselves more marketable in the workplace.

Mrs. Lopez homeschooled her daughter and son, and is currently homeschooling her goddaughter. In her spare time, which is rare, she loves to read and cross-stitch.
