Evangelium Domini: Translating Passages from the Latin Gospels with Debbie Gaudino
- Summary
-
Would you like to use your Latin translation skills to better understand the Gospels? Join us as we translate passages from St. Jerome’s Latin Vulgate into our own language. You will learn to sharpen your translation skills, build a Latin vocabulary that will help you understand the Gospels, review Latin grammar rules, and gain a deeper connection to the Word of God through the language of the Catholic Church.
In this course, students will translate Gospel passages and related texts in Sacred Scripture from the Latin Vulgate into English. Each class will touch upon the context of the passage in the Gospel, introduce the key vocabulary and grammar in the passage, and review skills needed to translate Latin texts.
This class provides an excellent introduction to the Latin used in the Scriptures and can help students retain and improve their Latin grammar, vocabulary and translation skills over the summer.

Debbie Gaudino
Debbie Gaudino graduated with a BA from Fordham University. After spending nearly a decade working in the Banking and Finance industry, Debbie and her husband Anthony made the life changing decision to homeschool their two children.
While homeschooling, Debbie received her MA in Theology and Pastoral Ministry and began to serve the Church in a variety of roles. Now a veteran homeschooling Mom (her son is a novice and seminarian in the Red Bank Oratory of St. Philip Neri and her daughter is a student at Franciscan University of Steubenville), it is a great joy for Debbie to continue to serve the homeschool community as a Latin and Theology teacher at Homeschool Connections.
Additionally, Debbie is the Director of Religious Education for the Parish of St. Thomas More in Manalapan, NJ and is blessed to be a Woman of Vallicella, which is a secular member of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri. In her free time, Debbie enjoys long walks on the Jersey Shore with her husband, visiting her native Brooklyn, NY for good Italian food and rooting for the ever losing, but always lovable New York Mets.
