Basic Biology, Part One with Inshal Chenet

Students will learn to see the wondrous beauty in creation through learning about the divine order of biology and the incredible complexity of the cell. If you would like your eighth-grade student to have an introduction to biology before high school, or your high school non-STEM-centered student to take a course that satisfies the high school biology requirement, then this is the course for you.
How to get the most out this course:
First, read the course materials below before the first class meeting.
Then have a notebook ready and available for class notes each live session.
Read assignments before class meetings
Watch that week’s recording if you need to revisit information from our live session.
Do the assignments, quizzes, and any extra work assigned for that week.
Once the course is completed to the parent's and professor’s satisfaction, there is a Certificate of Completion at the end to be filled in for your records

Course description: The start of understanding the sciences is Wonder. To be able to look at the natural world and notice with new eyes what is around you. This deepens into a desire to continue on with the sciences. In this course, we will be learning about the beauty of creation through the divine order of biology and the incredible complexity of the cell. There will be some optional labs, which will require only simple tools found at most convenience stores.

Class 4: Single Celled Organisms

Class 6: Review for Midterm
Class 7: Invertebrates
Class 8: Invertebrates (continued)
Class 9: Chemistry of Life
Class 10: The Cell
Class 11: Human Cellular Development
Class 12: Review for Final

Homework: Each class, students will be required to read a selection from the textbook, then take a short question quiz. If students are having difficulties, there are supplemental questions in the book that they can use to shore up their knowledge.
Quiz Rules: Quizzes are no notes / closed book unless the individual quiz says otherwise! You can try the quiz multiple times, but your first try must be before watching the next recording. There is an Answer Key for Parents to grade the Quizzes.

Inshal Chenet
About Inshal Chenet
Inshal Chenet and his wife are both proud homeschool graduates. Mr. Chenet has lived in 18 different places around the globe since he was born in Bedford, Texas. He comes from a family of seven and his father served in the United States Air Force.
After serving a year in NET ministries, Mr. Chenet went on to attend Wyoming Catholic College and received his BA in Liberal Arts, and then received his MA in Theology from Christendom College.
He teaches Science, Theology, History, and a variety of other subjects for Homeschool Connections and other local groups, and is currently starting a boy's high school, St. Joseph the Worker Academy.
On the side, Mr. Chenet runs Cottonwood farms, a small farm community with several catholic families and many animals such as: a milk cow, pigs, maple-tapping, bees, sheep, goats, and chickens.
He is a certified COR backpacking instructor and enjoys canyoneering, caving, and camping when he can find the time for it. But most of all, Mr. Chenet loves spending time with his wife and four children and the vibrant community that they live in.
