Course Description: Would you like to learn about several different types of sports and recreational activities? In this course, you will learn about pickleball, horseshoe pitching, badminton, volleyball, softball, and more! We will explore the history, equipment, rules, variations, physical requirements, and other fun details! You don’t have be an athlete to take or enjoy this course, as it is designed to teach you how to enjoy many activities that you can participate in recreationally for the rest of your life!

Recommended (not required): The Sports Rules Book, 9781492567592 (https://amzn.to/3dmPzns) – Available used inexpensively, but make sure you purchase the 4th edition.

Homework

Daily quizzes that cover the information taught on the previous day. Quizzes are computer-graded for immediate feedback. Total out-of-class homework per day is 1-hour max.

About Kerrie Berends

Kerrie Berends, PhD, has worked in the health and wellness field for over 30 years and has extensive education and experience teaching homeschoolers, K-12 public students, university students, and individuals with disabilities and diseases. She holds two Masters degrees (Adapted PE and Teaching) and Doctorate in Kinesiology. Dr. Berends holds industry certifications in Exercise Physiology and is a Certified Fitness Nutrition Coach and Sports Nutrition Specialist (NESTA) and has published research in the area of nutrition. She is also certified in self-defence by R.A.D. Systems and teaches women's self-defense at the college level. Dr. Berends is currently full time professor and administrator at a private university and lives with her husband in Michigan. Her three homeschooled (graduated) children are now each accomplished with their own careers as a post-baccalaureate video and audio tech, a US Navy submarine electrician's mate, and a full-time preschool teacher.
