Critical Thinking, Catholicism, and History
- Summary
-
Learn to think critically in our “information age,” understand history and current events, and make good decisions while living out your Catholic faith with wisdom.
Instructor: Christopher Martin, PhD
Course Description:
Modern sources of news and entertainment are cleverly designed to compel, persuade, sensationalize, and attract attention. The purpose of this class is twofold: to both teach students how to think critically about the information they encounter, as well as how to construct well-written arguments with appropriate, supporting source material. Few people in our society realize that the true benefit of studying history goes beyond the simple lessons of the past. Rather, by giving critical analysis to the interpretations of the past, students can themselves learn to identify and scrutinize sources of information and form their own opinions with greater wisdom.
OUR PRAYER BEFORE CLASS MEETINGS:
Grant me the grace, O merciful God,
to desire ardently all that is pleasing to Thee,
to examine it prudently,
to acknowledge it truthfully,
and to accomplish it perfectly,
for the praise and glory of Thy name.
Amen. Historiographical Reviews, by Christopher Martin (eBook)

Anastasia Brooks

Anastasia grew up as number three of six siblings, originally born in the city then raised in the countryside Anastasia was homeschooled alongside her younger siblings after two years of attending a private Catholic School. When she came into the upper middle school years she took Homeschool Connection classes until she graduated highschool. During Anastasia's free time she can be found in a good book, playing with sheep or learning deeper about the Catholic Faith.
