Course Description: Welcome to the exciting World of Marine Biology!  Topics students study include ecological concepts of the sandy beach, rocky shore and benthic communities, seaweeds, planktonic forms, plankton and their relationship to marine life cycles, nekton, benthos, marine bacteriology, marine biological resources, and marine pollution.

The student can choose to read a book: The Extreme Life of the Sea (2014) by Stephen Palumbi and Anthony Palumbi isbn: 9780691149561 Tides (2018) by Jonathan White isbn: 9781595348050 Seaweed Chronicles (2018) by Susan Hand Shetterly isbn: 9781616205744 Modern Marine Science (2006) by Lisa Yount 9780816057474 Or The student can choose to write a 3-5 paragraph report on Sea Urchins to be submitted to a parent, must include: body structure, eating habits, where they live and at least one interesting fact about them. Christine Hamilton is a graduate of Ohio University, with a BS in Biomedical Engineering and MS in Healthcare Administration, and NYU with a PhD in Public Health. She is VIRTUS trained in Protecting God’s Children and taught third grade PSR for her parish. Dr. Hamilton is also a homeschooling mother of two.
