SAT Math Boot Camp with Monica Breier
Recorded course taught by Monica Breier for High School Test Prep
Summary

Ready to bring your math knowledge to a new level and prepare to sit the SAT exam with confidence? Join us in this two-week boot camp to learn about SAT question types, timing, performance strategies, and more!

How to get the most out of SAT Math Boot Camp with Monica Breier:

  • First, download the necessary software from college board. Make sure you have a notebook. This class was made for the paper test, which no longer occurs. Please utilize this course for the ability to understand where you need to improve mathematically and other test taking tips. Some of the format does not transfer to the digital test.

  • Read and complete assignments before class meetings

  • Do the timed tests whether using the paper version or practicing digitally and any extra work assigned for that class.

  • I suggest practicing with paper while you determine what you need to work on mathematically.

  • Once the course is completed to the parent's and professor’s satisfaction, there is a Certificate of Completion at the end to be filled in for your records.

Course description: This SAT Math Boot Camp will help students prepare to sit the SAT exam. Basic algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric skills will be reviewed, but this course is designed to teach students how to use what they already know rather than to introduce new content. Accordingly, class time will be spent studying SAT question types, timing strategies, and other tips and tricks for test taking success. We will also discuss testing accommodations, but please be aware that students need to register for accommodations with the College Board far in advance of the test date. The dates of this course are designed to correlate with a specific test, but students who are registered for later tests (or who simply want an introduction to standardized test taking) are also welcome.

Course outline:

Class 1: Introduction to the SAT: Timing and Basic Question Types

Class 2: Reviewing a practice test: How to be your own coach

Class 3: In depth study day: Linear Equations, Functions, and Word Problems

Class 4: Question types in practice; Test Day!

Course materials:

Free SAT Practice tests from College Board: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/practice-preparation/practice-tests

Textbook: The College Panda’s SAT Math: Advanced Guide and Workbook for the New SAT by Nielsen Phu. You can purchase a paperback copy on Amazon, or you can purchase from Phu directly by making an account on his website (College Panda Website: https://thecollegepanda.com/books/)

Note that if you buy from the College Panda website, you are buying an online-only version,

which cannot be downloaded or printed. We recommend getting the paperback version unless

you enjoy working on a tablet.

Homework: This is an intensive boot camp course, so students should expect to spend at least an hour a day working on their test preparation. This does not include class time. Students will be assigned worksheets to complete daily from the College Panda book, as well as additional practice problems and practice tests. Expect to complete two SAT practice tests during the course of our boot camp!
