Summary

Join this high school Advanced Conversational Spanish course, learning the Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation that allows you to speak the language. For college-bound students or those who want a fluid ability to speak Spanish to others at home and abroad.

Course Description: In this course, students will review previously learned grammar and vocabulary through short conversations, role-playing, and the development of short stories in order to sharpen their speaking and listening skills. They will further develop their reading and writing skills through the reading of articles and short stories, which will be discussed as a group in class in Spanish. By the end of this course, students will be able to comprehend and maintain short conversations through the expansion of vocabulary and grammar.

Special notes

Course materials are provided FREE. This course only takes 20 students; therefore, we recommend registering early. In addition to the 12 live classes, there are 8 supplemental recorded lectures. This is Part One of a two-part course. Students are expected to register for Part Two in the spring.

Materials

  • All course materials are provided FREE by the instructor. A Spanish/English dictionary is recommended, as well as a notebook or binder.

Homework

Students will be expected to spend about 3 to 5 hours studying per week outside of weekly classes. This is not meant to discourage students. Simply put, repetition is key when learning any new language. Audio files will be expected to be submitted to the teacher.

Fees

Fee: For all 12 live classes and 8 recorded lectures: $237 if you register on or before July 15, $257 after July 15. (Registration closes one week before the first day of class. After that date, registration is not guaranteed. There is a $25 surcharge for late enrollments after the course is closed.)

About Nanci Lopez

Nanci Lopez graduated from Seton Hall University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education and also in Spanish. While born in Newark, New Jersey, her family is originally from Puerto Rico. Mrs. Lopez worked for six years with the Bloomfield School District as a Spanish Teacher and New Teacher Mentor.

During that time, she developed and implemented the Spanish and French Curriculum for the Elementary and Middle schools in the district. Mrs. Lopez taught Conversational Spanish I, II, & III to adults and senior citizens at Union County College. She also taught Spanish to healthcare and business professionals.

Additionally, she operates Conversational Spanish Online, LLC, teaching Spanish online to adults who want to make themselves more marketable in the workplace.

Mrs. Lopez homeschooled her daughter and son, and is currently homeschooling her goddaughter. In her spare time, which is rare, she loves to read and cross-stitch.

About Kevin Kiernan

Mr. Kiernan has been with Homeschool Connections since 2018. As a classroom monitor, Mr. Kiernan has been teaching history, geography, science, mythology, religion, and literature before class through the pre-class Jeopardy games he produces. Mr. Kiernan is a Catholic husband and father to five children, with the youngest two using Homeschool Connections to finish their high school requirements.

Mr. Kiernan is a former competitive cross country and track & field athlete, competitive weight lifting athlete, CCS and WERA licensed motorcycle road racer, AMA motocross racer, and ATV Institute safety instructor. He is currently an NRA rifle, pistol, and shotgun instructor and competitive rifle and pistol, shooter. Mr. Kiernan studied mechanical engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He has owned several businesses in the Powersports industry, and is currently the owner of Redline Rentals LLC. He is an active stock market day trader.

Mr. Kiernan enjoys hiking with his dog, weight lifting, mountain biking, target shooting, and spending time with his family, as well as debating politics and religion.
