How to get the most out of High School Spelling Boot Camp (Grades 9-12) with Erin M. Brown, MA, MFA:
Each class session, have a notebook ready and available to take notes!
If after the class, if you need to revisit the information from the LIVE session, watch the recording.
After class (or watching the video), complete the activities and assignments in order, from the top to the bottom of the page.
Once the course is completed to the parent's satisfaction, at the end of the course, you'll find a Certificate of Completion that can be filled in for your records.

Course Outline
Class 1: How to make spelling easier…From the Basic Code to Combinations: How spelling works; Why “pure sounds,” “Sound Pictures,” and auditory discrimination are critical to great spelling; two spelling games that make all the difference; Grouping Sounds in Sound Boxes
Class 2: The Combination Code: What it is and why it changes spelling forever (in a good way!); Spelling games for the win (ditch copying, have fun remembering)
Class 3: The Vowel Name Code: What it is and why it’s a different (and the best) way to remember spelling combinations
Class 4: The Imposter Code: Why spelling in English can be tough—and how to make it super easy
Course materials: All learning materials for the course are provided FREE by the instructor. Students should bring two (2) packs of 3x5 cards, a black marker, an 8 ½ x 11 notebook, and a highlighter to class!
Homework: Between classes, students will have approximately one hour of homework/preparation for the next class with creating fun learning materials, playing spelling games, and practicing the ideas presented in the course. Work and projects will be brought to class and used together in activities that can be repeated and enjoyed at home, beyond the course.

About Erin M. Brown, MA, MFA
Erin M. Brown, MA, MFA, is the creator and Director of the Aquinas Writing Advantage program. She is the author of eighteen (18) books (including Simplified Writing 101: Top Secrets for College Writing Success) and has been a professional author, editor, and university professor for over 30 years.
Erin designed the online writing program for three universities and taught at Patrick Henry College (writing, research); Cornerstone University (multiple writing courses, interpersonal communication, management and leadership, and critical thinking); and led the General Education Communications curriculum development (writing, communications, critical thinking) for Western Governors University.
Professor Brown has a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing/Genre Fiction from Western Colorado University, a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Rehabilitation, and a Bachelor of Music (BM) degree in Education from Western Michigan University. Professor Brown was a homeschooling parent for 34 years and homeschooled 10 children. She lives in Michigan and enjoys writing Science Fiction and Fantasy books in coffee shops, speaking online and at conferences, and walking her dogs.
