Persuasion is a type of public speaking used to convince an audience to change behavior, buy an item, choose a vacation, or believe a point of view. With practice, you can become confident in your approach to persuade someone else. During this course, students will present different types of persuasive speeches while developing basic public speaking skills.

Course Description: This is a graded elective course for middle school students. Students are required according to their ability to do different types of presentations, such as recitation, commercials, and persuasive speeches. A score sheet will be used and calculated for all presentations. Students will be scored on their own merit not against others. Most presentations will be about 5-8 minutes and given live at home. Students will prepare four major presentations. Students will also practice audience etiquette and how to constructively critique presentations for improvement. Two graded quizzes will be given on basic public speaking concepts.
