Geometry with McDougal Littell, Part One with Emily Nardozzi
- Summary
-
Register for Geometry with Mrs. Nardozzi to dive deep into the incredible world of two- and three-dimensional shapes as created by our majestic God. We will learn how to think critically about math situations, which will help us build a way of logically coming to truthful conclusions. This is a skill desperately needed in our world!
How to Get the Most out of the Course:
Each week students should:
1. Watch the recorded video lessons and complete the corresponding homework problems. One video should be watched and then one homework problem set completed. Then move onto the next video and homework assignment. Each homework assignment should be checked using the answers in the back of the textbook.
2. Complete the weekly quiz on Caravel. Retake the quiz until 100% is achieved.
3. Watch the recorded live class if you are in need of help with any homework problems in case your question was answered in the live class recording.
4. Complete the chapter test if there is one.
**I recommend keeping a notebook or composition book with all theorem and postulates written out so that they are easily accessible when trying to complete proofs. It is ok for students to use this when taking their quizzes and tests.**
Special Notes: This is a 2-part course.
Total classes: 14Duration: 55 minutes per class
Prerequisite: Algebra 1
Suggested grade level: 9th to 11th grade
Suggested credit: One full semester Math or Geometry
Instructor: Emily Nardozzi
Course description:
Each lesson from the textbook will have a recording for students to watch and the recorded live class is the instructor answering homework questions. This means that there will be 2-3 recordings (around 15-20 minutes long) for students to watch each week. In the recorded live class, the teacher will answer questions and lead the students through practice problems.
This course will allow students to study the size, shape, and characteristics of two- and three-dimensional shapes. It will also increase a student's capacity to think using logic and critical thinking skills. In McDougal Littell students are introduced to proof early in the text. At first they are given the proof with pieces of the proof missing that are to be filled in by the students. After this is practiced, students will then be asked to create a two-column proof from start to finish. The text is not full of proofs, but they are continually sprinkled throughout the text so that students continue to see them and continue to get stronger writing them. Tests and quizzes will not be full of proofs but will likely have a proof to fill in and occasionally do completely on their own. The textbook itself has large, easy to read print. It has a combination of several practice problems for students to grow in their comfort of the new topic and then also some application problems that are more challenging.Course outline:

Plus, compass, protractor, ruler, graph paper (this can be printed when needed from the internet), and a scientific calculator that contains the basic trigonometric functions (buttons for sin, cos, tan). A TI-30XIIS calculator will be sufficient.
Homework: Each week, we will cover two to three lessons from the text which means students will be completing 2-3 homework assignments. Students should plan to spend around 30-40 minutes on each homework assignment. Daily homework is self-graded using the back of the textbook with weekly check-point quizzes and chapter tests graded automatically or using an answer key.

About Emily Nardozzi, MEd
Emily Nardozzi received her undergraduate degree in mathematics and secondary education from Saint Mary’s College of Notre Dame in 2009. She then participated in Notre Dame’s ACE (Alliance for Catholic Education) program, earning a Masters in Education. Mrs. Nardozzi taught at St. Jude in St. Petersburg, Florida for three years and at Father Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan for three years.
Emily Nardozzi lives in Michigan with her husband and five beautiful children. She spent my childhood playing school and fell in love with math during her academic years.
When she began studying in college, her heart kept pulling me to become a math teacher. She have taught and tutored math for over 14 years. It brings her great joy to find creative ways to explain math concepts and watch the "light bulb moment" happen for her students when concepts click and make sense.
Teaching for Homeschool Connections has been a tremendous blessing, and she cherishes the ability to teach math in an atmosphere of faith and love. God is so good!
