Are you interested in psychology? Considering it as a college major or minor? This course will give an overview of topics that would be covered in an introductory psychology course in college from a Catholic perspective.

How to get the most out of College Preparatory Psychology with Kristi Moore, PhD:

  • Then have a notebook ready and available for class notes during recordings.

  • Do the assignments, quizzes, and any extra work assigned for that class.

  • Once the course is completed to the parent's satisfaction, there is a Certificate of Completion at the end to be filled in for your records.

Suggested Grade Level: 11th to 12th grade. Accelerated 10th-grade students welcome.

Suggested Credit: One full semester of Psychology or College Preparatory Psychology.

Course Description: This course will be an introduction to all the major areas of psychology. Students will learn about prominent psychological theories and research and be challenged to think critically about these theories and how they apply to the modern world through a Catholic point of view.

Parents should note that mature topics will be touched upon in Developmental Psychology, Personality, and Social Psychology. These topics include gender, Freud’s psychosexual theory, and stereotyping and prejudice.

Class 3: Developmental Psychology

Class 4: Biopsychology & Consciousness

Class 5: Sensation & Perception

Class 6: Personality

Class 7: Thinking & Intelligence

Class 8: Memory

Class 9: Learning

Class 10: Social Psychology

Class 11: Mental Disorders

Class 12: Therapy & Treatment

Homework: There will be pre-recorded lectures to view in addition to the recordings. Students will take online quizzes and complete weekly written activities and discussion questions. An application paper applying psychological principles to some form of media will also be required (approx. four to six pages). Expect to spend 1-3 hours per week on homework outside of class.

About Kristi Moore, Ph.D.

Dr. Kristi Moore earned her PhD in Educational and Developmental Psychology from the University of Florida and is currently an Associate Professor and Program Director for the Applied Psychology graduate program at Angelo State University.

She specializes in child and adolescent development and learning and motivation. Dr. Moore has been teaching psychology since 2009.

She enjoys fulfilling her vocation as a wife and homeschool mother to her four children. Dr. Moore and her husband are licensed foster parents in Florida.
