With a passing score, your student can fulfill the writing prerequisite for the High School Punctuation and Grammar (9-1) course.
How do I sign up? Scroll down to the red text (below) for the simple instructions.
Note: If you have signed up and followed the red text directions below, you can then open the course. This page will show again, and you'll have NEW access to important information and how-to details to take the assessment(s)."How does it work?"
Your student will take a multiple-choice test.
The test can be taken anytime, anywhere.
However, we suggest you and your student create optimal testing conditions by finding a quiet, uninterrupted space.
Once completed, the test will be automatically graded.
The Writing Assessment Coordinator will create a report of your strengths and weaknesses per the test score.
You will receive recommendations as to a next-step plan for punctuation/grammar and academic writing.
"What's the Cost"?
The Punctuation and Grammar Test and in-depth report is $28.
Questions & Answers
1. How long will the test take?
The time it takes depends on your student. The multiple-choice test has no time limit, but you may want to allow up to two hours for it.2. Who grades the test?
The test is automatically graded within the Caravel system.3. What is a "passing score" for the test?
If using this assessment to test out of AWA's prerequisite writing courses potentially, students must obtain a score of 90% on the quiz. Students who do not obtain 90% must take the prerequisite courses through recordings (through Unlimited Access) or "live." For information on Unlimited Access, click here.4. Once I begin, can I leave and come back?
No. The test needs to be taken in one sitting.5. After finishing the assessment, will I see which ones were incorrect?
Yes. You can go over your questions after the quiz is complete.6. Is there anything else to do after the test is completed?
Yes. When the test is completed, email the Assessment Coordinator (the email address is provided at the end of the assessment). You must complete this step to receive your final report. Thank you.7. Beyond using it for HSC class placement, what can I do with this assessment?
This assessment can be used as a supporting document for enrollment in outside courses in writing, as requested by potential schools.
